'It's been a while' - those familiar words - have been busy with exciting commercial projects for www.digitalsurface.co.uk which I am unable announce just yet :-( the time will come soon ;-) In the meantime I have re-kindled an old interest in audiovisualisation during a brief burst of non-commercial activity, the results which are posted here.
3d particle audiovisualisation
Based on a demo by Dan Gries which can be found along with a lot of other incredibly useful stuff at flash and math. Dan's original demo 'atomises' an image and rotates the resulting pixels in 3d space, an idea itself originally attributed to veteran Flash genius André Michelle (this roll call is getting long!). The pleasing spatial effect is achieved by increasing 3D z depth based on pixel luminance, so that the brighter pixels appear to be 'flung' further away from the image origin. In this version audio is used to augment the effect by directing bass, middle and treble frequencies to provoke rotations on separate axes. Hence if there is much of one frequency group and little of the other two, the particles will tend to rotate on a single plane only. Audio is provided by my nemesis, Wah Wah Rabbit. The track is simple enough to provide easily identifiable frequency separation which can be seen in the resulting effect. Enjoy ;-)
